Delaware photographer and ecologist Samantha Stetzar's series encourages viewers to take a closer look and see the beauty in nature that's around us all the time.
“This tiger swallowtail butterfly nectaring on a bee-balm flower epitomizes the art of noticing. I understand the behavior of this animal which helped me anticipate when it would spread its wings out, but I still felt incredibly lucky to get the shot.”

“Photography has become such a passion of mine this year and winning has helped me believe that I do have what it takes.
I want my fellow Delawareans to look at my work and be proud of the nature of this state, enough to go out and take a closer look of their own. And then hopefully take action to protect and conserve it.”
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Samantha (Sam) Stetzar discovered her passion of photography through her work as an ecologist across various disciplines in field from academic research, population management, environmental education and scientific communication.
Her desire to shift into freelancing was deepened by extensive stints of backpacking and solo travel to some of the most remote places in the world, often volunteering with conservation organizations along the way. She is interested in how she can use photography as well as exploring short-form film and journalism to support and elevate the work of conservation organizations in Delaware and around the world.
