Looking to do more photography near home, Kansas photographer Reed Hoffmann captures a moment of astronomical proportions.
“Reading about the upcoming flyby of comet Neowise, I started researching locations I might use to photograph it. I stumbled across this spot while scouting others, and had to return a couple of times to finally make this picture.”

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Reed Hoffmann got into photography in high school, then worked at newspapers in Indiana, Alabama and New York before moving to Kansas City in 2000 and starting his own business. Initially, that involved both photography and consulting — helping newspapers and other organizations convert to digital — which led to teaching.
He created the content and helped teach Nikon School of Photography courses across the U.S. from 2002 through 2016, and has led over 100 hands-on workshops across the world, including all seven continents.
