By Indiana Photographer Jingyin Che

Indiana photographer Jingyin Che stages himself in a laboratory to explore the suspicion faced by Chinese and Chinese American scholars in academic spaces.

“Drawing on my background in engineering, I stage photographs in laboratories, classrooms, and other academic spaces where I once imagined my future, exploring how familiar places can become unsettling under scrutiny.”

“I'm excited to see this photograph become part of the everyday landscape in Indiana, where I live and teach. A billboard allows the work to reach people who might never encounter it in a gallery, and I'm curious about what they will see in it.”
